On
September 16, 2007 my exuberant precocious little dog was diagnosed
with ALL - Acute lymphoblastic leukemia/stage 5. The only symptom
Paddy had prior to diagnosis was loss of appetite for a few days.
The prognosis for this disease is poor and dogs live only a short
time after diagnosis is made. Paddy had one chemo treatment and
large doses of prednisone. It was a very long 6 week battle.
Today, he went to wait for us on the Rainbow Bridge. Trish He
should have been called Joy. His attitude and demeanor defined “joy”
and brought joy into every aspect of life. Joy was the morning
walk at “forced march” pace. Joy was the swishing fur butt, head
held high as he greeted “his” territory each new day. Joy was a
game of ball – table ball, counter ball, and especially “stair
ball.” Joy was a home littered with soft balls. Joy was the PON
smile greeting and circling after separation. Joy was constant
companionship, at work and at home. Joy was the absolute devotion
of a very intelligent, furry best friend. Joy was the honor of
being his best friend. His name should have been Joy. We called
him Paddy
